Gulyás can be traced back to the 9th century Kingdom of Hungary. It was commonly a stew eaten by shepherds. The name means “herdsman” or “herd of cattle”. As a humble and relatively simple dish, it has become popular all around the world. Gulyás can be served with a slice of bread, noodles or dumplings.
